Basic Botanical Data of Cnidium plant and Cnidium Seeds.: Basic Botanical Data of Cnidium plant and Cnidium Seeds. Botanical Description of Cnidium plant: Cremocarp, ellipsoidal, 2-4 mm long, about 2 mm in diameter. Externally grey ish-yellow or greyish-brown; with 2 outcurved stylopods at the summit, and someti mes with a fine fruit stalk at the base. Dorsal surface of mericarps with five th in and longitudinal ridges, commissural surface flattened, with two brown and sli ghtly raised longitudinal ribs. Botanical Description of Cnidium Seeds: Cnidium seed has been very commonly used in formulations designed to warm th e Kidneys and strengthen Yang energy. It is primarily used for the purpose of ove rcoming sexual malaise and strengthening sexual potency. The classics repeatedly mention it as an aphrodisiac. Osthol(C15H16O3) destroying parasite and relieving itching Osthol(C15H16O3) can be used to treat trichomonas vaginitis, eczema of scrotu m, rubella, scabies, tinea, cutaneous pruritus, etc. In treating trichomonas vagi nalis, streaming method or bathing method can be used by using the decoction of t he drug, Radix Sophorae Flavescentis, Pericarpium Zanthoxyli, Radix Stemonae, etc ., or 15g of Common cnidium fruit extract(Fructus Cnidii Extract)can be ground in to powder with some alum, and the powder is mixed with water, put on gauze and th e gauze is inserted into the vagina once a day. (Corp us cavernosum = one of the columns of erectile tissue forming the dorsum of the p enis (one of the two columns of erectile tissue forming the clitoris)). 4.Vasorelaxation. Osthole."It is concluded that osthole relaxes rat thoracic aorta by virtue o f its Ca(2+)-channel blocking properties and by elevating cGMP levels in vascular smooth muscle". Osthole caused an inhibition of voltage-dependent L-type Ca(2+) current in a concentration dependent manner. The channel-blocking properties of osthole may, at least in part, contribute to the underlying mechanisms by which it affects neu ronal or neuroendocrine function. 5.Anti-inflammatory effects: Osthole and xanthotoxin showed anti-inflammator y activity. 6.Osthol modulates TRH-evoked responses by interacting with the TRH receptor : The influence of two plant coumarins, osthol and xanthotoxin, on intracellul ar Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i) transients evoked by TRH were studied in clonal rat pituitary G H4C1 cells. Osthol, but not xanthotoxin, decreased the TRH-induced transient incr ease in [Ca2+]i in Fluo-3 loaded cells incubated in Ca(2+)-free buffer. Binding e xperiments with [3H]TRH showed that osthol decreased the binding of TRH to its re ceptor, whereas the affinity of the receptor for TRH increased. This resulted in a decreased TRH-evoked production of IP3 in cells treated with osthol, and a decr eased mobilization of sequestered calcium. Osthol did not inhibit the release of calcium evoked by exogenous IP3 in permeabilized cells. Furthermore, osthol decre ased the uptake of 45Ca2+ in response to high K+. Xanthotoxin had no effects in t hese experiments. The results show that osthol modulates TRH-evoked responses by interacting with the TRH receptor. 7.Anti-allergic effects:Osthol has anti-allergic effect, inhibits contact de rmatitis induced by 2,4-dinitro-fluorobenzene or picryl chloride.
